In 1905, while working at the YMCA in Bloomington, Illinois Ralph Smedley developed a social skills club that would later become Toastmasters International. Smedley wanted to teach the young men he worked with how to speak, conduct meetings, plan programs, and work on committees.

Today, Toastmasters across the world continue Smedley’s vision when we help friends, neighbors, and community members discover Toastmasters. In celebration of Smedley’s birthday, your club can earn the Smedley Award this fall.

When your club adds five new, dual, or reinstated members between August 1 and September 30, the club will be awarded the “Smedley Award,” a ribbon that can be proudly displayed on your club’s banner and also receive a 10% discount off their next club order from the Toastmasters International store.

Check out Toastmasters International’s website for more information, and check back soon to see the list of winning clubs.
